When the word discipleship is mentioned, it is often associated with structured programs, defined systems, or a singular method of teaching and growth. However, discipleship, as modeled by Jesus, was never confined to a rigid framework. It was relational, dynamic, and responsive to the individual.
Believers are called to disciple, yet we believe this calling should not be reduced to a one-size-fits-all approach. Tim and I have learned that each individual, group, and season carries its own context. Therefore, discipleship may take on many forms. It may occur through a conversation over coffee, a time of studying Scripture in a home, a moment of prayer, or even through consistent communication in everyday life. The method may vary, but the call remains the same.
Discipleship is not about replicating a specific model; it is about walking alongside others in their journey of faith. It requires presence, intentionality, and a willingness to meet people where they are. In this way, discipleship becomes less about structure and more about obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Despite the diversity of methods, the message of discipleship remains constant. All true discipleship points to one central focus: Jesus Christ. It does not elevate individuals, systems, or organizations, but continually directs attention to Him.
Furthermore, discipleship is inherently communal. It is not designed to be pursued in isolation. Rather, it involves walking together, encouraging one another, speaking truth, and growing in unity. True discipleship is both relational and spiritual, grounded in a shared connection with others and a unified relationship with Jesus.
Understanding this allows believers to move beyond limitation and into freedom. Discipleship does not require a specific setting or formula. It can take place in everyday environments and ordinary moments. What matters is a commitment to invest in others while continually pointing them to Christ.
In light of this, believers are encouraged to embrace the unique opportunities before them. Wherever they are placed, there is an invitation to disciple—through relationship, through truth, and through a shared pursuit of Jesus. When we put Him first, we grow, unified in one purpose, the Kingdom of Heaven to expand. We are here for it!
